The frail president of the United States of America, Joe Biden, has conveyed well wishes to his political rival Donald Trump after he survived an assassination attempt on Saturday.
Trump, who is running for re-election as U.S. President was injured by a sniper in the ear while he was delivering a speech during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
At least one person has died, and two others were injured during the shooting. The alleged shooter – who fired multiple shots towards the stage – was killed by US Secret Service personnel.
“I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.
“Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it,” Biden wrote on X.
On Sunday, the former U.S. president thanked his supporters for their prayers and words of encouragement, saying “it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening.”
“I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured,” Trump said.
