KZN MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, has revealed that the province will be affected by another snowstorm in the next few days.
Duma made the announcement on Thursday during a media briefing held at the Greyville Racecourse Conference Centre in Durban.
“Following last weekend’s heavy snowfall that resulted in thousands of motorists being trapped along N3 and other major routes, we have taken a decision to strengthen our road safety measures,” he said.
The MEC called the briefing following a meeting with the SA Weather Services, where he was informed that “KwaZulu-Natal will be affected by snowfall from Monday into Tuesday” next week.
Some of the areas that have been singled out include Ladysmith, Underberg, the Drakensberg, Giant Castle, as well as other high-ground areas.
“In addition, [SA Weather Services] emphasized that, in all likelihood, snowfall will stop on Tuesday but will be followed by rainfall in various parts of the province, including Durban and other coastline areas,” Duma cautioned.
