The African Transformation Movement (ATM) says it is opposed to the National State of Disaster due to the Energy crisis, that the Cabinet Lekgotla is considering.
“We don’t want another bout of irrational regulations and rampant looting that we saw during Covid. Eskom must be put under administration with a multiparty Committee as overseer,” it said on twitter.
With the ongoing load shedding stages, government is investigating whether the crisis fulfills the legal requirements for the declaration of a National State of Disaster.
Addressing members of the media on the deliberations of the Cabinet Lekgotla, which is underway in Pretoria, Minister in the Presidency, Mondli Gungubele, said government is investigating the call for the declaration of a State of Disaster.
“I have asked my team to analyse the impact of the State of Disaster. We hope to, in a short space of time, give a report and what government does with that is not in my hands,” Gungubele said on Thursday.
ATM leader, Vuyo Zungula on Wednesday also wrote on his twitter account, rejecting the proposed move.
“Declaring a State of Disaster for Energy is not a solution. The country is still reeling from the Covid State of Disaster where rampant looting and favouring friends with relief packages was rife,” he said.
