Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has congratulated the President of Türkiye for winning the country’s national election.
Erdogan was elected for his third consecutive presidential term on Sunday. He will take oath in the year when the country celebrates its 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey.
“Warmest congratulations to President Erdogan of Türkiye on his re-election. The African Union looks forward to continue and strengthen the AU-Türkiye strategic partnership for the benefit of our peoples,” Mahamat said.
Erdogan, 69, was first elected as the president of Turkey in 2014 and re-elected to the post in 2018.
