South Africa is set to host the 13th BRICS Ministers of Agriculture meeting aimed at increasing cooperation among its member countries to promote sustainable and fair growth.
The meeting will take place from 8-12 August 2023 at Mookgophong, Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality in the Waterberg District, Limpopo province.
Held under the theme, ‘Strengthening collaborations towards sustainable agricultural production and increasing productivity‘, the meeting will seek to pursue issues of common interest relating to food security, climate change, rural development, economic challenges, poverty alleviation and population growth.
The department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development said the BRICS ministers’ mechanism aims to promote development cooperation, security, and establishment of a more equitable economic world.
BRICS is the grouping of the world’s leading emerging market economies, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Talks of expanding the bloc will be high on the agenda at the upcoming summit taking place in Johannesburg, from 22 to 24 August 2023.

BRICS countries produce more than a third of the global agricultural output and have a significant role and responsibility in ensuring the sustainability of the agriculture and food sector, global food security and nutrition, India’s Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare said.
By ways of deepening agricultural cooperation and promoting comprehensive development of rural areas, the member countries take actions for increased resilience of agriculture, rural areas and farmers.
