Former leader of the Democratic Alliance, Lindiwe Mazibuko says Cyril Ramaphosa’s resignation as President of the country and his Party would open the door for the nastiest, most craven and unrepentant criminals in the ANC to start feasting again.
Her remarks came after the Independent Section 89 Panel – tasked with looking into the robbery at the Phala Phala game farm – found that President Ramaphosa may have violated sections 96(2)(a) of the Constitution and Section 34(1) of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities (PRECCA) Act.
Since the Section 89 Report was published on Wednesday, speculation has been rife that Ramaphosa is seriously considering stepping down or the ANC NEC will recall him.
“Are you ready for President David Mabuza?” Mazibuko wrote on twitter.
“The ANC leadership deck is empty. Credible leaders such as Naledi Pandor or Ronald Lamola lack the time to build the groundswell for a win with literal days to go before conference. I would welcome another Motlanthe caretaker presidency but it’s a temporary solution at best.
“A Ramaphosa resignation is just what the crooks ordered. The next 18 months will be hell for our country. But in 2024 we get to decide if it’s time to end South Africa’s abusive relationship with the ANC. The decision is still ours to make,” she added.
The Speaker of Parliament Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula said the National Assembly will consider and adopt a resolution on the report next week on Tuesday.
Section 89 of the South African constitution provides that a sitting President can be removed on grounds of serious misconduct, violation of the law, or inability to perform the functions of office.
