Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has congratulated his close friend and counterpart Vladimir Putin for winning a landmark presidential election of the Russian Federation.
Russia held the presidential election from March 15-17. This was the first election where votes could be cast for three days and be submitted online remotely.
“I send my congratulations to the brother people of Russia and President Vladimir Putin for their extraordinary victory in the presidential elections of the Russian Federation,” said Maduro on the X social media platform.
“It has been an impeccable electoral process that in these last 3 days has demonstrated its democratic participation in an exemplary manner. Our hugs to all the Russian people and the United Russia party!”

Putin received 87.32% of the vote, with 99.75% of ballots counted, the head of Russia’s election authority confirmed on Monday.
Ella Pamfilova, head of the Russian Central Election Commission, said during a press conference in Moscow that Putin received a total of 75.9 million votes in the election.
She added that 87.1 million people had voted in the polls, amounting to a record turnout of 77.44%, surpassing the previous high of 74.66% in the 1991 presidential election.
Putin’s closest competitor Nikolai Kharitonov, supported by Russia’s Communist Party, received 4.3% of votes, while the New People party’s Vladislav Davankov got 3.84%, followed by Liberal Democratic Party of Russia candidate Leonid Slutsky with 3.21%.
