The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) has come out in full support of Julius Malema, president of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), following a public backlash against the singing of “Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer” song.
Malema on Saturday was joined by his supporters at a packed 90,000 capacity FNB stadium for the party’s 10th-anniversary celebrations, when he sang the struggle song at the end of his speech.
Businessman and Twitter owner, Elon Musk reacted to the chant by claiming that the EFF is “openly pushing for genocide of white people in South Africa.”
The PAC subsequently came out guns blazing saying it rejects the criminalization of the struggle heritage.
“If King Dingane was alive today, was he also going to be criminalized for ‘Bulalani abathakathi’. ‘One settler, One bullet’ is also our Heritage. We support [the EFF] in continuing to preserve struggle Heritage,” the PAC said.
Court judgement
In August last year, the Equality Court in Johannesburg ruled that the song was not hate speech or incitement, after AfriForum took the matter to court.
According to the court judgement, the “Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer” song counts as freedom of speech and had to be left in the political arena.
