The Northeast African country has been in freefall since the brutal power struggle erupted last April between rival militaries – the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Across the country, more than 11.8 million people have been displaced from their homes, according to data published by the UN refugee agency, UNHCR. More than 3.1 million among them have sought shelter in neighbouring countries, sparking a regional humanitarian crisis.
Underlining that the sovereignty, stability, and unity of Sudan are vital for the region, President Afwerki expressed Eritrea’s commitment to play its “modest role” in supporting this process.
For his part, General al-Burhan commended the support that the people and Government of Eritrea have extended during this crucial time for Sudan. He also expressed his readiness and intent to further develop the long-standing relations between the two countries.
The Sudanese delegation included Mr. Khalid Ali Eleaisir, Minister of Culture and Information, and Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mofadal, Director General of the General Intelligence Service, along with other senior officials.
