The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) on Wednesday finally weighed-in on the contentious opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics Games which took place on Friday, 26 July 2024.
The party believes that the show “was very offensive, highly blasphemous and an affront to millions of Christians all around the world.”
The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics appeared to mock Jesus Christ by recreating “The Last Supper” with drag queens, and contained graphic elements not suitable for kids’ viewing.
“The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) condemns the insensitive disregard, disrespect and intolerance of Christian values in the name of art and inclusivity.
“We know for certain that the organisers of the opening ceremony, who showed no regard for the religious values of Christians, would not disparage other religions, particularly Islam,” the ACDP said in a statement.
Many other global leaders also used their platforms to condemn the Paris Olympics, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who said on X that “respect for Jesus Christ (pbuh) is an indisputable, definite matter for Muslims.”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reportedly urged Pope Francis, in a phone call on Thursday, to speak out with him against the “perverse propaganda” that was spread at the Paris Olympics games.
“To depict the Last Supper of Jesus Christ and His disciples as a coming together of queer and transgender persons is a mockery of the Christian faith and must be strongly condemned by all decent people. To worsen matters, the lead role of Christ was played by a woman partly covered when Jesus is a Holy Man of integrity. Scripture calls Him the Son of God. This was morally repugnant,” the ACDP said.
