Member of Parliament and Deputy Chief Whip of the Democratic Alliance, Baxolile Nodada, on Friday issued a statement calling for further action against EFF leaders Julius Malema and Floyd Shivambu for their alleged involvement in the VBS corruption scandal.
Six years ago, the DA laid criminal charges against the two EFF leaders. Now the party claims that SAPS has failed to provide any updates on the status of their investigations.
For this reason, Nodada said the DA has taken a decision to refer SAPS to the Parliament Police Portfolio Committee for oversight.

This comes after former Chairman of VBS Mutual Bank, Tshifhiwa Matodzi’s detailed affidavit, in which he directly implicated Shivambu and Malema in the looting of VBS through Sgameka Projects (PTY) LTD, a company registered under the name of Shivambu’s younger brother, Brian Shivambu.
“We have written to the Police Portfolio Committee Chair, Ian Cameron, requesting that he summons SAPS to appear before the committee and explain why there has been no progress into the charges that were laid against Malema and Shivambu in 2018 over VBS.
“SAPS has dragged its feet on this issue and by doing so, allowed the serious allegations of corruption against Shivambu and Malema to go untested. The police service is supposed to conduct itself without fear or favor but its silence on this issue is sending the wrong message in the fight against corruption and embezzlement,” Nodada said.
In light of the serious allegations raised by Matodzi, the DA contends that a rigorous investigation be conducted “and those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
The EFF president and his deputy have labelled the allegations as unfounded, suggesting that this is an attempt to assassinate their characters.
