Celokuhle Ngcamu, a 13-year-old pupil who’s currently in Grade 7 at Gobhela Primary Full Service School has found herself in a fortunate position as the latest beneficiary of Duduzane Zuma’s educational generosity.
The learner is an SRC President at her under resourced yet smart school that is located in the Ugu District at Umthwalume – south of KwaZulu Province.
She was given an opportunity of a lifetime to have her tuition fees fully paid by Mr Zuma, right up to University level. She has been accepted to study at the Anton Lembede Maths, Science and Technology Academy as of 2022 and its annual fee sits at R42 400 this year.
Ms Ngcamu first met Mr Zuma on the 16th of September 2021 during the official opening of the Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma Block and the Duduzane Zuma smart classroom ceremony which took place at her school.
At the ceremony, the learner is said to have given a warm introduction of Duduzane Zuma and a moving welcome speech to all dignitaries. Ms Ngcamu is described as an intelligent learner who is deserving of this opportunity, coming from a smart school in a rural area. The possibility of going to a high school with no smart bots that might slow down the already made progress posed as a great concern.
Speaking to Mr Vincent Ngcamu, the father of Ms Celokuhle Ngcamu, he mentioned how excited they are as a family. Upon being asked what led his daughter to choose a Maths, Science and Technology School; in his words, “She is doing really well in those subjects and wishes to pursue a science related career.”
Mr Ngcamu further explained that this was a miracle as he once went to the Anton Lembede MST Academy with faith and the hope that his daughter may get a scholarship. When they approached Mr Zuma, he was approachable, honest and respectful. A day later, he reverted and kept his promise that he would indeed fund Celokuhle together with his team.
Ms Celokuhle Ngcamu is described by her school principal as a natural-born leader, someone who is very helpful to other learners, a hard worker who loves her books and has little time for [games].
This is not the first time Mr Zuma is helping out students who are in need to cover their tuition fees. In the year 2020 he came to the rescue of University students that were facing financial exclusion by pledging an undisclosed amount of money so they could register.
According to his associates, Duduzane is highly motivated by his love for the Youth and education at large as he is an IT professional. He is of the belief that the education system currently does not cater for the needs of the 21st Century. However, we must do the best we can to ensure a high quality of education for our learners and future leaders.
