The President of the EFF Students’ Command, Sihle Lonzi, on Monday lambasted the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Board as he suggested that it was an ANC Youth League (ANCYL) proxy.
Lonzi’s remarks came after Parliament invited members of the public to apply or nominate suitable candidates for appointment to serve on the NYDA Board.
A list of shortlisted candidates and their resumes will be published on the parliamentary website to allow members of the public to comment on the suitability of candidates.
Taking to his X social media page, the EFFSC leader said: “We’ve got no clue what value the old board added, besides seeing its Chair running around with [Collen] Malatji for cameras. Parliament must rescue this board from being a useless ANCYL proxy!”
Since its establishment, the NYDA has been often perceived to have become too politicised, failing to manage its finances, and not adequately serving the youth living in rural areas.
As customary, the President will, on recommendation of Parliament, appoint a member to the NYDA Board for a term of office not exceeding 3 years.
Members of the NYDA Board may be appointed on full-time or part-time basis and any person, whose term of office as a Board member has expired, may be reappointed for one additional term.
