Tech billionaire Elon Musk has lambasted United States (US) President Joe Biden, who announced he will not be running in November’s presidential election.
In a statement on Sunday, 21 July, Biden said he was standing down to focus solely on fulfilling his duties as the US president for the remainder of his term. This comes days after he announced he was diagnosed with COVID-19.
Musk, who is the world’s richest man, asserted he knew about Biden’s withdrawal a week prior to the official announcement.
Further weighing in, the owner of social media platform X (formerly Twitter) labelled the American president an “old puppet” before tearing into Kamala Harris — who is Biden’s deputy and possible Democratic Party presidential nominee.
“I heard last week that he would resign at this exact time and date. It was widespread knowledge in DC.
“The real powers that be are discarding the old puppet in favour of one that has a better chance of fooling the public. They fear Trump because he is not a puppet,” Musk wrote.
The Tesla CEO’s sentiments do not come as a shock as he has publicly and vehemently thrown his weight behind former US President Donald Trump.
Following an assassination attempt on Trump last week, Musk said he “fully endorses President Trump and hopes for his rapid recovery.”

Musk is reported to be committing approximately $45 million (R823 million) a month to a new political action committee backing the Republican nominee’s presidential run.
