The MK Party says it will not accept the national reconciliation agenda “when the reality of black suffering remains unchanged”.
The party issued a statement on Monday, 16 December, pointing out that 99 per cent of the 25 million South Africans living in food insecurity are black people, “while whites waste tons of food”.
“Black people are still trapped in squalor in townships and informal settlements, while whites continue to live in luxury in affluent suburbs, enjoying pre-1994 comfort,” said uMkhonto weSizwe.
This statement came on the day when South Africa observed the annual National Day of Reconciliation which was established in 1995 after the end of apartheid.
Through this public holiday, the government aims to promote national unity and bridge historical divides.
However, the MK Party called on South Africans to view Reconciliation Day as “a political ignition for the expropriation of land without compensation”.
It said that the day is nothing more than a revisionist facade by the ruling elite to mask the deep wounds inflicted upon South African forebears and the broader black majority.
