President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, has congratulated Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on his re-election as head of state.
According to the official results of the December 10-12 poll announced by the Egyptian National Elections Authority (NEA) El-Sisi won his third term in office after receiving 89.6% of the votes.

“I extend my hug and congratulations to Abdel Fattah El-Sisi who has been re-elected for the third time, a popular victory that vests him as president of the Arab Republic of Egypt. You have our support, respect and cooperation.
“From Venezuela we hope that this new mandate in 2024 continues the path of growth, prosperity and peace for your people. Congratulations!” President Maduro wrote on X.
Voter turnout in the presidential election was reportedly the highest in Egypt’s history, reaching 66.8%.
El-Sisi took charge of the country in 2014, securing 96.91% of the vote in that year’s presidential election. In April 2019, Egypt approved amendments extending the presidential term from four to six years and keeping the rule in place that the president can only be re-elected once.
However, “a transitional provision” was later introduced that made it possible for El-Sisi to remain in power for another two years, until 2024, and consequently seek re-election for a third term.
