Secretary General of South African Natives Forum, Mr. Nkhathale Dikobo, says the release of an amended version of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture Report is an absolute joke that shows how Chief Justice Raymond Zondo continues to abuse his powers.
The Presidency received the report on Wednesday, which incorporates “corrections” made by Zondo, who chaired the Commission.
During an interview with Vulankungu, Dikobo said this entire exercise is an intentional insult not only to the South African judiciary but also to the citizens of this country.
“Who exactly reappointed him, since what we all know is that the State Capture Commission finished some time ago and was closed by the president?
“The courts don’t appoint a chairperson of a commission,” Dikobo argued.
In justification of this unusual occurrence, the Presidency said the release follows the granting of permission by the Pretoria High Court on the 4th of October 2022, which then allowed Zondo to make changes to the final volume of the report.
At this stage it is not clearly to the public as to what specific “corrections” in the report were necessary to be made. However, speculation is rife on many social circles that the latest findings will be used to settle political scores within the country’s governing party before it holds an elective conference in December.
Zondo has since stated that nobody would be prejudiced by the amended report and that it would be in the best interest of the public.
The amended reported is accessible on the Presidency’s website.
