Xiluva has called on the Gauteng Provincial Government to address “the urgent need” for potable water in Emfuleni Local Municipality and dissolve the municipality with immediate effect.
The party’s provincial coordinator, Norman Mohale, said the contamination of water in areas such as Sebokeng Zone 7, Palm Springs, Beverley Hills, Lakeside, and Everton in the Vaal region is a critical issue that poses serious health risks to residents.

According to a statement issued by the Emfuleni Municipality over the Easter Weekend, technicians are suspecting a collapsed sewer pipeline in one of these areas as the cause of drinking water contamination.
The municipality said it has shut water supply to all the affected areas to allow for further investigations. Assistant municipal manager Makhosonke Sangweni advised residents of the affected areas to boil water before consumption.
“Immediate action is needed to identify the source of contamination, address the issue, and ensure that clean and safe drinking water is accessible to all affected communities. The health and well-being of the residents must be a top priority, and swift intervention from relevant authorities is essential to prevent further harm,” Mohale said.
He pointed out that the lack of access to clean water is a fundamental human right which must be addressed promptly.
“If dissolving the municipality is deemed necessary to ensure proper governance and service delivery, then decisive action must be taken to protect the well-being of the community members,” Mohale emphasized.
