Xiluva has welcomed the recent appointment of Dan Marokane as the new Group Chief Executive of Eskom, the Party’s President Bongani Baloyi said in a statement.
Baloyi stressed that Marokane needs to show dedication to restructuring and revitalizing the state-owned enterprise without any political interference.
He warned that Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan’s “overreach” may hinder Marokane’s efforts and potentially limit his accomplishments.

“For years Gordhan has proven that he is unable to effectively carry out his duties as mandated, creating a detrimental effect on state-owned enterprises (SOE) and impeding the country’s progress. His undue interference has led to issues in the management and operations of the SOEs, which are crucial for the development of the economy and the well-being of the nation,” Baloyi said.
The power utility confirmed Marokane’s appointment on Friday, saying he would start “no later than 31 March 2024”.
A qualified Chemical Engineer and a seasoned executive with more than 20 years of senior leadership experience, Marokane was one of four managers suspended at Eskom during the so called State capture period. He subsequently resigned and went into the private sector.
“Mr Marokane was a senior manager in Eskom from 2010 to 2015, holding various senior positions, including head of Group Capital in Eskom,” the Department of Public Enterprises stated.
Eskom has been facing significant challenges in providing reliable power supply for over a decade. This year, the power outages have reached particularly severe levels, with households and businesses experiencing up to 10 hours of darkness each day.
According to the president of Xiluva, this situation has had a detrimental impact on the economy, disrupting productivity and daily life for many people.
“Urgent measures are needed to address this issue and ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply for the country,” Baloyi maintained.
